In 2012, 29.1 million Americans, or 9.3% of the population, had diabetes. Diabetes is a disease of the endocrine system of the body that causes blood glucose (sugar) levels to rise higher than normal. Also known as hyperglycemia. Diabetes Type 2, considered a lifestyle disease, is the most common form of diabetes. With the correct treatment and recommended lifestyle changes, many people with diabetes are able to prevent, manage or delay the onset of complications.

This workshop is for people with Diabetes Type 2 without complications and non insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (niddm).

This Yoga practice is designed to manage, and can possibly reverse the affects of Diabetes Type 2 on the body.

Stress is often a cause of diabetes. Meditation along with pranayama and asana helps to prevent and relieve stress, balancing the mind and body thereby reducing side affects caused by diabetes.

In this workshop you will learn:

PRANAYAMA – Saturday

  • Pranayama (breath practice) to regulate the nervous and endocrine systems to prevent damage to eyes, heart and kidneys. These organs are often compromised as a side affect of diabetes.

ASANA – Sunday

  • Simple asanas (postures) to help regulate the pancreas and the digestive organs of the body
  • Relaxation techniques for balancing and calming the mind and body.

This workshop is based on the ancient wisdom of Yoga and its relevance to modern life.
